I create multi-sensory paintings and installations, which provides a holistic experience; facilitating physical touch and the intertwining of mind and body. My aim is to disrupt and challenge the traditions of modern viewing practice and let viewers enjoy and experience the work in an environment without restrictions or imposed viewing rules. I feel that the cultural restraints concerning touch, combined with a reliance on sight, and the uncontrollable forces of technology, has detached us from the sensuous world and ultimately from ourselves.
My latest paintings all encompass fabric in one way or the other and my goal is to keep developing these paintings, concurrent with possible painting installations.

Karen & Ben, Auckland – 17 Oct. 2012. Gitte has just completed a second work for us, the first was some years ago and we adored it (it was also much admired by others, and hung in a prominent location in our living area). The second painting is an astonishing, amazing progression. The first work we commissioned we steered the composition and colours quite significantly. With the second Gitte followed her artistic instincts with much less input from us and the result is a completely different yet gorgeous piece just dripping with refined drama. She has a wonderful eye and gift for colour and texture collaboration. We will be seeing ‘new things’ in our painting for months to come which makes it all the more delightful. Thank you Gitte, we love it!
